Writing through a Structured Literacy Lens: The Power of Syntax
Unlock the power of syntax in writing! This course is designed for Year 0-8 educators in Aotearoa New Zealand who want to strengthen their structured literacy practices by explicitly teaching sentence construction. Grounded in Te Mātaiaho: The New Zealand Curriculum (English, Years 0–6) and informed by research-based approaches such as The Writing Revolution, this course provides practical strategies for teaching sentence structure, parts of speech, phrases, clauses, and complex sentences.
Participants will explore the connection between syntax, comprehension, and oral language, gaining hands-on experience with activities that help students write with clarity and confidence. Through interactive lessons, discussion, and classroom-ready tools, educators will leave equipped to embed explicit syntax instruction across all areas of the curriculum.
